Worship Defined

The LORD is worthy of worship, as the one true and living God. We were made to worship Him.  Worship can be defined as our response to who God is and what He has done, both as our Creator and Redeemer.  According to Romans 12:1-2, our spiritual act of worship as believers is to offer our very bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God.  All of life is an opportunity for us to worship our great God.  The very breath in our lungs and the heart beating in our chest means we are alive and able to respond to our Creator.

Our worship as a church is a time where we gather to remember God’s faithfulness and to declare that He has bought us with the precious blood of Jesus Christ.  We have been redeemed from the bondage of our sins and are free to worship the Lord.  We do so through singing, praying, giving, preaching, and celebrating the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

Few things define a people like their music. This is no less true of the church than of the culture at large. Our music at First Baptist makes a statement about who we are and what we believe as a church.

Our music ministry is committed to God-focused worship. The songs we sing as a congregation are saturated with the good news of Jesus Christ, and we aim to exalt the name of our Lord.

Worship services at First Baptist reflect the varying styles and musical language of our people.  We believe these diverse and natural worship expressions are an exciting dynamic at First Baptist.  The morning service is led by our adult choir and praise band.  Both ancient and modern songs are utilized in the celebration of our great God.  Our worship leaders encourage strong congregational participation and authentic response to the Lord.

Adult Choir

The First Baptist Choir has a long legacy of excellence and faithful worship leadership in Paducah.  The choir rehearses every Wednesday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the choir rehearsal room next door to the sanctuary. Everyone is welcome. The choir is directed by Pastor Howie Ohman and accompanied by pianist Devonda Treece and organist Donna Chapman.

Adult Praise Bands and Orchestra

There are many talented musicians in our community and within our church family.  We welcome the use of these instrumental gifts in corporate worship.  Our Sunday and Wednesday services are a special way to serve the congregation in music.  Interested musicians should contact our worship pastor, Howie Ohman, to schedule a brief interview and audition.

Awaken Band (Students)

We love students at First Baptist Paducah and it’s our goal to give the youth in our church family the opportunity to participate in worship at a weekly service designed especially for them.  The service is open to 7th through 12th grades.  Interested musicians should contact our student pastor, Steve Moore, to schedule a brief interview and audition.

Our KidsChoir is a fun way to get children excited about worship.  All kids, K-6th grade are welcome.  Every Spring semester, our children gather on Sunday nights for rehearsals and have a special presentation in May.  Our children also participate in the Christmas and Easter presentations with the entire worship ministry.  KidsChoir, directed by Kyle Burpo and Matt Hinz, is supported by a group of dedicated adults who love children and love making music for the Lord!
